Minimalism meets Hygge

Exploring Cozy Minimalism with The BluePrint Studio

A few weeks ago, Sweekriti told me, “Would you mind doing a shoot for me? I’m not getting those exact angles. The site should be ready soon, and it’d be great if you could do it.” To which I only said, “Of course!” and I’m glad I did. It’s mostly been street photography for a few months, and this project allowed me a remarkable change of pace.

We’d done some referencing and looked over the stills of the site beforehand, so we roughly had an idea of what we could achieve. However, you can only be sure when once you’ve seen it for yourself. The brief they tasked me with was simple – the design aesthetic is minimal, and the pictures need to feel inviting. Bearing that in mind, we decided to do this shoot only in natural light (only using negative fill as and when required).

The site was a lovely home with an open floor design. The living room seamlessly transitions into the dining area, followed by the kitchen. With ample light & cross-ventilation, the entire space felt genuinely relaxing and inviting simultaneously. The living area was level with the yard it opened into, whereas the rest of the floor and dining area were a few inches higher in white & grey marble. To create an extra sense of depth and division between the areas, the living room flooring, in contrast, was of interlocking dark wood, which helped elevate the clean walls and all-white ceiling.

The clever use of lighting fixtures from Orange Tree, Olie, and The Purple Turtles not only added warmth and lumination, but the definitive geometric shapes of these fixtures added that ever-subtle spunk to the home. The furniture, from sofas to round tables, was all custom-made to create the right amount of comfort and ease. This 500 sq.ft. of renovated space felt like an excellent mix of minimalism and hygge, the concept of cosiness and contentment.
